Some players have taken better advantage of the great course conditions than others, though.
The women played for the October monthly medal last Wednesday, with Di Byrne having a sensational score of 84-18=66 to claim the medal. The extra competition was the best second shot on the sixth and that went to Dale Stuart. The ball pool included Byrne and Sue McCall with 72 nett.
In the men’s results on Wednesday, Paul Cox (14) had a great score of 40 points to win A-grade. The winner of B-grade was Phil Jarvis (19) with 33 points on a countback from Neville Roulston.
The nearest-the-pin on the fourth was John Boruch, on the sixth it was Dave Hamilton, on the 12th Greg Pell was the closest and the 17th went to Mark Fountain.
The ball pool went to those with 34 points or better and included Cox, Dave Pearce, Hamilton, Pell and Ian Richardson.
The mixed nine holes was won by Stubby Byrne (23) with 16 points on a countback from Gary Wright.
On Thursday, a women’s tournament was played at Trentham in glorious weather. Glenda Woods represented the club with fine form to win B-grade scratch.
Saturday was the penultimate round of the championships for both the men and the women, so players were looking to get good scores on the board to help them in the overall scoring for the championships.
Boruch posted a fantastic score of 80-14=66 to convincingly have the best of the day to win B-grade. Fountain was the best in A-grade with a nice score of 78-8=70. The C-grade winner was Graham Kiper with 90-19=71.
The top scratch score of the day went to Matt O’Sullivan with 77.
The nearest-the-pins went to Pearce on the sixth, Sawyer on the 12th, Richardson on the 17th and the fourth stayed at the club. The drive-and-pitch on the eighth went to John Callaghan and on the 15th it was Don Gee.
The ball pool went to net 73 on a countback and included Boruch, Sean Boland, Fountain, Kiper, Sawyer and Bill Matthews.
The winner for the women was Paula Britton with a steady score of 91-19=72 on a countback from Shelley Dowling and McCall. The ball pool went to those three players with 72 nett.
The nearest-the-pin on the 17th was Woods.
The social nine holes this Friday will be stableford over holes 16 to six. Saturday is the final round of the championships for the men and the women.
