The club’s AGM last Monday afternoon led to a nine member 2026 committee being formed with Mathew Crothers elected president and Kobi Amoruso as vice-president.
Committee member Mark Plant said the club were pleased with the AGM results.
“We successfully put together a committee, and we had a few new members as well as a few returning committee members which was the response we were hoping for and have formed a good little committee.” he said.
The Wanderers are now building towards the season starting in the next few months, Plant said.
“We’re now just looking for players to show up.
“Training is Thursdays 6.30pm at Rotary Park.
“Any people keen on soccer, or just want to talk Premier League or the world cup coming up, it is open to all players to just come along.
“We’ve got preseason matches locked in for the middle of March including a tournament in Swan Hill which I expect to be similar to last year which also had one team from Bendigo, one team from Swan Hill and one team from Mildura.
“We’ve got warm-up matches with Hay also, who are planning to re-enter their league after a fair while, so we’re looking forward to that, its always pretty friendly with them.” he said.
For the March preseason matches the club is inviting players old and new to get involved whether returning Wanderers, new community members in town, getting back into soccer, or just keen to have a run in preseason, the Wanderers have a space available.
All skill levels are welcome, even if players would just like to play preseason and see how they go before committing to the full season.
They will have a Swan Hill Gala Day on Sunday, March 8 and preseason matches against Hay Soccer Club on Saturday, March 21at home and March 28, away.
And if people don’t fancy playing, the club has extended the invitation to come down and cheer the boys on. Community support makes a huge difference for trainings on Thursdays and matches.
Plant said the club is also on the lookout for a head coach to lead the Senior Men’s team this season.
“The other thing is, we are also planning to find and are looking for a full-time coach.”
“In the meantime we will have some interim coaches, but anyone who might be interested in coaching Deniliquin’s representative soccer team can contact Mathew Crothers on 0437 406 330.”
The club have said they’re looking for someone who wants to build team culture, develop players and help guide the Wanderers back to finals football.
It is a volunteer position in an amateur competition and coaching experience is preferred but not essential for the head coach opportunity.
