Sons in spotlight as Free Press celebrates footy generations

Following in footsteps: Lachlan Carver has been Kyabram’s most consistent player in the Goulburn Murray Junior League this season. He is the son of Corey Carver, the former Lancaster premiership player who is now coaching his son’s team. On pages 12 and 13 today is a look at the modern-day father-son combinations of the Kyabram District League.

Carver and Turpin are two famous surnames when it comes to Kyabram District League football ranks.

Although more familiar in the eye-catching yellow sash of Lancaster and the royal blue vertical stripes of Girgarre, the sons of former champion midfielders Corey Carver and Jeff Turpin were both involved in a Kyabram Recreation Reserve Goulburn Murray Junior League under-16 fixture on Sunday.

The sons of the two premiership stars, both of whom have a gluttony of individual awards to their credit, were in the red-and-black of Kyabram contesting the round 11 match against Shepparton Swans.

With three of the KDL’s “local’’ teams in Merrigum, Stanhope and Lancaster having byes at the weekend, the Free Press took the opportunity to do a deep dive into the league’s modern-day father and sons.

Today we have part two of the father-son investigation that started a month ago with the Goulburn Valley League.
