A big thank you to Secretly Scrumptious for its generous sponsorship for the Par event held on Tuesday, February 17, where a field of 32 women participated.
It was Mareza Bauerle’s (21) turn to have a day out, winning A Grade with plus one and then to complete her day, also winning nearest the pin on the first.

Kathy Fanning (30) put in a good performance to win C Grade achieving the best score for the day with plus two followed by Darkie Hayes (32) just one point behind on plus one to be named runner-up.
The following were recipients of a ball each, with Trudie Plumb, Kyra Clark, Nola Arnold, Di Bruhn and Bev McLay all playing to their handicap by finishing square, along with Susie Bennett with minus one.
The jackpot for nearest the pin on the 10th was won by Veronica Ryan with her second shot while no-one claimed nearest on the sixth for the Firstea Voucher.
Weekend
It wasn’t only winning the day’s event or being nearest the pin, course superintendent Paul Price did the improbable by holing out at the 5th during the fourball round on Wednesday at Parkland. Midweek
Cooler weather last Wednesday saw a good field contest the Par event. Considering the conditions, scores were not as high as might have been expected.
Von Morris, the only player to better her handicap, was the winner, finishing 2-up and she also claimed nearest the pin. Helen Emery was runner-up after finishing square with the card.
Weekend
Last week it was Nathan Kuiper dominating the scoreboard and this week his dad, Paul, found his best form with a 41-point round that saw him take out A grade by a comfortable four shots.
Starting on the fourth hole, a birdie-par-bridie sequence got his round off to a good start before he really consolidated with five pars on the back nine.
Even a double bogey on his final hole, the par three 3rd, where he failed to score, could not ruin his round, as he finished with the same score as last week’s winner, Steve Usher, which seemed fitting given Kuips has modelled himself on Steve in many ways.
That left Daryl Harrison, Stuart Newton and Pooch McHale (each with 37-point scores) to contest a countback for runner-up — a result that went in Daryl’s favour.
There was a four-shot margin in B grade also with Jeff ‘Cobba’ Carnie doing some of his best work for a round of 39 points while the consistent Laurie Radley finished next in line with 35 points.
Things were a bit closer in the ladies’ event with Von Morris the star with 37 points and Jenni Bauerle the runner-up with 35.
Von had a big day, as she also won the NTP ball on the 3rd and the First Tea voucher on the 15th. Tracey Wade won the ladies’ NTP ball on the 12th.
Along with the aforementioned Stuart Newton and Pooch McHale, ball comp winners were Kelly Cheong (36 points), Brad Edwards (36), Peter Mangan (36), Kevin Bauerle (35) and Graeme Harrison (35).
Stuart Newton (3rd) and Glenn Laity (12th) won the A grade NTP balls but the B grade NTP balls went into unclaimed monies.
Daryl Harrison (13th) and Laurie Radley (9th) won the best second-shot balls.
On Tuesday, Debonair David Collins got back to his best form, taking out A grade with 38 points from Kevin Bauerle with 37.
It was a good start to a good week for Jeff Carnie as he warmed up for the weekend with 36 points, taking out B grade from Alan Hausler who won a countback for runner-up with 34 points from Paul Dickens.
Kelly Cheong, (35 points), Mick Coyne (35), Mick McAuliffe (34), Paul Dickens (34) and Kevin Humbert (34) won balls.
Nearest the pin trophies went the way of Pooch McHale (A grade 3rd ), Gary Cleary (A grade 12th), Kayne Crompton (B grade 12th), Simon Portwine (First Tea Voucher 15th), Laurie Radley (2nd shot 9th) and Kelly Cheong (2nd shot 13th).
Finally, in a postscript to last week’s report, a crowd of well over 200 people turned out at the Ky Club on Sunday for Peter ‘Nobby’ Noble’s memorial service in a clear indication of how popular a personality he was.
In addition to the personal tributes from Cheryl, Candice, Danielle, Adam and Wendy, Peter Nelson and Gavon Armstrong provided eloquent and precious insights into the man we all know as Nobby.
Once again, from everyone at Valley View, thanks for the memories, mate.

Merrigum Bowls Club
Just a short report this week. We lost the second semi by two shots after looking to be a strong chance with two ends to play.
Shepparton Park proved to be a little more consistent and certainly deserved to win.
David Pettifer, John Lilford, Ross Pettifer and Alan Dennis played N. Allen and won by 10 shots.
They led all day and only for dropping three shots on the last end had done enough to give Merrigum the win.
Greg Pell, Steve Dennis, Bob Pettifer and John Bailey played C. Meek and lost by three shots. They began slowly but by end eight they had drawn level.
After 11 ends they led by five but on the next end they dropped five to be level again. Scores were level again on end 19 but sadly they lost the last two ends to give Park the lead on the main scoreboard.
In the last game Joe Chant, Peter Warburton, Neil Gardiner and Jim Arthur played G. Eastment and had a horror start.
After 10 ends they had scored one shot while their opposition had 16 on the board. To their credit they outscored Park by 12 shots to 5 over the next 10 ends but that was too little, too late.
They were well beaten by an extremely strong rink, who all contributed to the win.
This week we play Dookie to see if we can redeem ourselves and get another chance.
Don't forget the Ethel Younger next Sunday.

Merrigum Golf Club
Merrigum golfers had another early start on Saturday due to the forecast hot weather, which had eventuated by the time we made our way back into the air-conditioned comfort of the clubhouse.
The event was a pairs ambrose, which saw a good attendance for what turned out to be a close contest.
It is difficult to know whether Tommy Ladhams and Bruce Brown are playing partners or sparring partners when they get out on the course, because they sledge one and other enough that the opposition have no need to get involved.
It seemed to spur them on on Saturday, however, as they came in with a very good score of three-under-par 67-5.5-61.5 to win the day’s event.
They did have to survive a countback, but they combined well in compiling their excellent score.
Bruce has been in outstanding form recently in getting his handicap down to single figures, while Tommy’s has been drifting the other way, but on Saturday it came together well for them both.
Captain Ash Sanders obviously hasn’t been to the Simon Doherty school of countbacks, otherwise he would have been able to conjure a win for himself and Hill Top visitor Andrew Cross after they also had a great round, scoring 68-6.5-61.5.
We all know Ash has been in very good form recently, but he also chose a good partner in Andrew, and they were unlucky to come out on the wrong side of the countback.
The next best was the consistent pair of John Fuller and Tony Borrelli with 64.5. Nearest the pins were won by Bruce Brown on the ninth, Gary Eden on the jackpot 12th, and Ash Sanders on the 14th. The winners also won the chook shed challenge with 15.
The penultimate official twilight competition for this season last Thursday has set up an enthralling final round this week.
Geoff Kirk had his first win for the season with a round of 43-5-38.
The perennial bridesmaid James Bray was the runner-up for the fourth time in five weeks and the sixth time for the season with a round of 54-15.5-38.5.
Simon Doherty took both nearest the pins, the jackpot ninth and the 14th, while Mick Poulton won least putts with 14 on a countback from Geoff Kirk and Ash Sanders. The two-point cut was 40.
Three players are tied on 37 points going into the final round, quite possibly the tightest twilight competition ever.
Michael and Craig Doherty, along with James Bray, will fight it out for the overall honours this Thursday, so good luck to all three of them.
A less formal twilight competition will continue after the official conclusion of this season’s competition.
This Saturday’s event is stroke for the Privilege Cup and the final spot in the next Tiger Cup play-off.
