Meanwhile, both Tongala and Kyabram are knocking on the door of the top four after levelling out their records two rounds into the campaign.
Stanhope added its second win to the tally after downing Mathoura at Stanhope Bowls Club 12-56 to 4-53.
Despite Mathoura’s Peter Holzer and Michael Humphreys defeating Ben Fletcher and Gregory Fitzpatrick 24-19 and 23-8, respectively, Justin Spedding’s dominance over Mathoura’s Ricky Ireland 29-6 gave the host victory.
Kyabram got its first division one win in round two, bringing down Tongala at home 14-58 to 2-53.
Kyabram skips Paul McInnes and Robert George got it done in rinks three and two, while Tongala’s Matthew Liverton jagged one back against Greg Shilling 25-16 in rink one.
Echuca is the top dog of division one heading into round three after defeating Moama in round two and extending its perfect start.
Travelling to Moama Bowling Club, Echuca claimed victory in all three rinks as skips Phillip Thorn, Stephen Cunnington and Ivan Page all showed their class to secure a 16-62 to 0-49 win.
Rochester still finds itself in the top half on the ladder despite a 2-55 to 14-63 round two defeat at the hands of Deniliquin.
While Rochester skip Richard Feuk suffered a heavy defeat against Deni’s Conway Bovell 12-26, Rochester’s other skips, Tim Quinlan and Leslie Walles, did better.
In fact, Quinlan got a strong win over Deni’s Robert Morris 20-12, while Walles was narrowly bested by Deni’s Jamie Shields 23-25.
Lower grades
It was a busy round in division two as all of Stanhope, Kyabram and Moama tallied victories across the region.
Stanhope went into the lion’s den of Rich River Bowls Club and emerged victorious 14-67 to 2-43.
Kyabram got its first win under its belt at home, bringing down Tongala 15-65 to 1-49 at Kyabram Bowling Club, while Moama scored a scalp away from home against Echuca 16-63 to 0-44.
In division three, Moama got another one over Echuca in dominant fashion at Moama Bowling Club, bringing down the visitor 0-43 to 16-69.
At Lockington Bowls Club, the host snagged a victory over Rich River 14-63 to 2-54, while Elmore drew with Stanhope at Stanhope Bowls Club 9-55 to 7-55 and travelling to Deniliquin Bowling Club, Rochester got a win over the host in straight sets, 16-69 to 0-37.
In division four, Rich River defeated Lockington 14-60 to 2-52, while Rochester got a big win over Kyvalley View 16-85 to 0-27.
Moama also got it done over Echuca, claiming a dominant 16-74 to 0-34 triumph, while Kyabram put Tongala to the sword 16-86 to 0-46.
Both Echuca sides were handed defeats in division five, with Echuca White going down to Moama 0-25 to 14-42 and Echuca Blue losing to Rich River 2-31 to 12-46.
Kyabram got the job done in timely fashion against Lockington 14-51 to 0-28, while Rochester also suffered a defeat, against Deniliquin White, 0-30 to 14-53.
Finally, Stanhope was brought down by Deniliquin Blue at Stanhope Bowls Club 0-22 to 14-62.
