Rochester’s young basketball players put their best foot on the courts as the Echuca Annual Basketball tournament took place throughout the region.

The tournament attracted a record 123 teams from all across Victoria, and eight junior Tiger teams fought hard over the weekend.

Leading the charge was the under-14 boys team.

After going undefeated in its Pool A games, Rochester met Griffith in Sunday’s grand final in Echuca.

While Asher Rasmussen (17 points) and Mason Mundie (nine) were prominent, Griffith eventually prevailed 41-30.

Rochester’s under-18 boys also had a strong tournament, missing out on the grand final on percentage with a 3-2 win-loss record.

Harrison Keating’s tournament-high score of 27 points against Echuca helped the Tigers seal a memorable two-point win, one of the competition highlights.

The under-18 girls managed to notch a victory from its four pool games, defeating Wodonga 28-19 on the back of solid performances from Chance Powles (10 points) and Kaylah Moon (six).

The under-16s will consider themselves unlucky to miss out on a grand final position despite finishing third with a 3-2 record, with two wins coming in thrilling fashion under three points or less.

Rochester’s under-12 boys and girls shared identical 3-2 records by the end of their pool games but narrowly missed out on grand finals, finishing second to round out a strong campaign.
