It was a tough outing for Tongala’s senior football side as it took on an in-form Finley side in the second half of the Murray league’s split round eight on Saturday.

The Blues kicked their goal in the second but continued Finley pressure saw the Cats stack on another 10 scoring shots, three goals and seven behinds.
Finley’s 5.17 (47) demonstrate the Blues good fortune to be down by only 40 points at half-time.

The number of Finley scores was slowed in the second half but the Cats found their shooting boots, kicking 5.3 in the second half to put the match to bed 10.20 (80) to 3.9 (27).
Matthew Caia and Mackenzie Cowley returned to the Blues line-up after recuperating from their respective injuries during the week off and they each, along with Brayden Nevett kicked a goal to make up Tonny’s scoring.

Alex Williams earned best-on honours for the Blues and was joined by Sam Cipriani, Jordan Souter, Brodie Easton, and Nevett in his side's best.
Finley (6-2), who just a few weeks ago was in mid-table, has now surged beyond Tongala (4-4) and into third place on the Murray league ladder.

Due to a glut of teams at the top, Tongala’s even record is only good for eighth at this stage of the competition.
A testing trip to Nathalia looms next Saturday, with the Purples previously obliterating the Blues by 98 points in the opening round.
