The Flames were upstaged by expected big improver Echuca South who chased down the visitors score of 4/167 with 4.1 overs to spare.
Brigade’s co-skipper Paul Newman with 30 and fellow opener Miller Griffiths got the Flames away to a good start.
But when they fell only veteran Justin Elliott in the middle order stood up with 26 before Brenton Sheppard and the Barnett brothers rallied late to assist posting a respectable score.
Sheppard top scored with 38 while Charlie Barnett (15) and Jackson Barnett added some valuable late runs.
But the new-look Echuca South batting line-up led by recruits Sandun Rathnatunga and new club coach Rathika Rajakumara lost only four wickets in securing the victory.
Rathnatunga dominated with an unbeaten 81 and got most support from Asantha Singappuli with 37 while Rajakumara made 18 not out.
Tom Owen with an economical 1/24 off nine overs was the pick of the Brigade bowlers.
The Flames host Moama this Saturday.
COOMA made a decent fist of trying to head off Moama’s score of 6/188 in the clash at Cooma but came up 10 runs short.
Acting captain Cooper Fawcett was the star with the bat for Cooma, top scoring with a patient 61 off 94 balls with only the one boundary.
Rob Trewin with 25, which included two fours and a six, dominated an opening stand of 34 with Russell Napier.
Moama’s innings was highlighted by a run-a-ball knock of 81 from vice-captain Anthony McMahon while opening bowler Ben Napier with 1/16 off six overs, Cooper Fawcett 1/39 off nine overs and Hunter Fawcett 1/20 off four overs were the successful Cooma bowlers.
Cooma was without skipper Jake Kelly, Liam Scopelliti and Mason Scopelliti, so it was pleasing effort.
Kelly and Liam Scopelitti should both return for this Saturday’s clash against Tongala at Tongala, but Mason Scopelliti is nursing an injured shoulder and may not be available until the New Year.
OPENER Sean Williams posted the first century of the season, leading Rochester to a win over Tongala, back in the top tier of competition after two seasons.
Williams blasted 112 off 105 balls with 15 fours in a dominant knock which enabled the home side to post an impressive 9/221.
Tongala was never in a position to challenge this score but Keagan Miller with 39 and Hudson Kellett (35) showed some promising signs getting their side to 7/138 in reply.
IN the other games on Saturday reigning premier Echuca crushed Bamawm Lockington United and last season’s runner-up Nondies Cohuna had a big win over Leitchville-Gunbower.
