The Bloods have a 2-3 win/loss record this season and sit sixth on the ladder, equal on points with reigning premier Lockington-Bamawm United and only one win outside the top four.
After the weekend’s loss to third-ranked Heathcote and the bye for this week’s sixth round of matches the Bloods will be under extreme pressure.
They have top-of-the-ladder Mount Pleasant and then face Lockington Bamawm, on the rebound after a loss to Leitchville Gunbower.
A week later they confront second-ranked North Bendigo, which will make the weekend’s defeat even more difficult to accept.
They led by a point at half-time of Saturday’s match with Heathcote, but after the long break kicked only five goals to their opponent’s 10.
It was eventually a 37-point win for Heathcote, kicking 15.11 (101) to Elmore’s 9.10 (69).
Ruckman Daniel Russell was the Bloods’ best player against his former team and another Rochester recruit Nathan Kay also stood out in the loss.
They kicked three of Elmore’s nine goals between them, with the Bloods looking right in the game at half-time.
After the break Heathcote full-forward Corey Grindlay exploded into action and finished the game with eight goals.
It was his third successive haul of eight and he now has 26 goals from four games this season.
He kicked 68 goals last season in the Riddell league for Wallan — the former Calder Cannon taking the Heathcote league by storm after kicking two goals in his season debut.
Darcy Laffy kicked three goals for Elmore, taking his season’s tally to 12.
– Elmore will stage a reunion of football and netball premierships on Saturday, May 27 — to co-incide with its match against Mounts.
It will include players from the 1963 premiership team, which beat Tooborac and its 1963 A and B-grade netball grand final winning teams.
The 1962, 1973 and 2003 reserves premiership teams will also be honoured at the event.
Netball will begin at 10am and the highlight on the courts will be the A-grade match at 2.30pm.
Football begins at 10.30am, with the senior match at 2pm. More information about the event is available from Ged McCormick on 0418 505 345.
Next week the Campaspe News will take a closer look at those premiership-winning teams.
