A little slice of local bowls history was created on Saturday when 13 year-old Tyler Hillier became the youngest player ever to represent the Deniliquin Bowling Club in the Division 1 pennant competition.

The Division 1 team claimed an excellent win against Kyabram, 50 shots to 47, despite losing in two of the three rinks.
Steve O’Brien’s side lost by a solitary shot, and Tyler’s team including Peter Todd, Bryan Kemnitz and Conway Bovell went down, 12 shots to 20.
Shane Laing called the shots for John Flisher, David Hessel and Rob Morris on their way to 22-10, and the overall three shot victory.
Division 2 fell just short in their match when Rich River prevailed by four shots, 57-53.
Paul Snare’s crew including Keith Hay, Bruce Clancy and Carly Crothers scored a comfortable 20 shots to 11 win, but Craig Hillier’s rink went down 17-22, as did Tony Tonta’s, 16 shots to 24.
Division 3 was soundly beaten by Kyabram, 71 shots to 44.
Mike Donohue, Jill Grimshaw, Graeme Dedman and Ken Salter missed out by a solitary shot, while Scott Vesty’s side also failed narrowly, 18 shots to 21.
Additionally, Mark Law’s team had a day to forget when they were defeated, eight shots to 31.
Division 5 White claimed a close victory against Kyabram, when they prevailed, 41 shots to 38.
Cheryl Bradley’s rink was beaten, 16 shots to 22, but Noel Murray, Craig Murray, Lee Pattinson and Lloyd Ritchie did enough in their 25-16 win to ensure the overall three shot victory.
Division 5 Blue maintained their unbeaten status for the season, albeit narrowly, when they defeated Echuca, 47 shots to 45.
Col Knuckey’s rink had their first bad day of the year when they went down 14-28, but Alan Hardcastle’s side including John Murray, Tony King and Ian Chessells got the team home when they won, 33 shots to 17.
Due to the Melbourne Cup public holiday in Victoria today, there will be no midweek pennant played.
