You’re exhausted just reading through the number of jobs Sherryn Wall has at Undera Football Netball Club.

Treasurer, game day operations, umpire co-ordinator, interim secretary, and a player-coach in C Grade.
Oh, and she does some social media work.
“I just started putting my hand up to say yes, and I'm a bit of a yes person,” Wall confessed.
“I can't say no, so the next job would come up, someone wants to do that or can’t do something else, and the club would say, ‘We need someone to do this’, and I'd just take it on.”
The dedication is incredible, almost mind-boggling.
Because how does Wall even find the time to do it all?
“That is a good question,” she said.
“To be honest, I don't know.
“People often say to me, ‘I don't know how you find so much time in the day’, but I guess it’s what you do when you love your club and community.”
Wall has been at the Lions since 2009, starting as a player before her broader involvement began in 2012.
She says she was more the quiet, sit back and observe type at first, having not been on a committee before.
Until others at the club got wind of Wall having “a bit of financial knowledge”, leading to her appointment as treasurer in 2016.
In Wall’s own words, Undera has become a place which has always felt like home.
It’s fascinating given the Walls had always been synonymous with Tallygaroopna.
“That’s where my family connection is,” Sherryn said.
“My parents both played netball and football for Tally, so I was a bit of a black sheep when I left the family club and went out to Undera, a club no-one knew anything about.”
Daughter Sherryn might have left her parents’ spiritual sporting sanctuary all those years ago — but there’s one trait she brought with her to the Lions.
“From a young age, my parents were always involved in sport and were always volunteers,” Sherryn said.
“So I think it was a bit inherited, ingrained into me that I was going to volunteer and follow in their footsteps.
“It's nice to have that in common with them.”
For context on the dedication we’re referring to, Wall’s mum, Marilyn, volunteers at the Shepparton Netball Association, despite having no other immediate family members involved.
The Walls’ passion for volunteering is all about the drive “to keep it all moving” in the local sports scene.
And through Sherryn, such passion led to recognition through the Kyabram District League’s Volunteer of the Year award in September.
When she joined the committee in 2012, Wall was nominated for a position while overseas on holiday.
Her club colleagues went behind her back again (in a very nice way), only informing Wall of her award nomination after submissions closed.
The KDL’s Facebook post announcing Wall’s win said, “Sherryn is the backbone of our football and netball club. Quite simply, without her, the club would struggle to function.”
It’s understood this is an extract from the submission made by president Sarah Press and netball director Amber Phillips.
“It was very humbling to hear what they said and wrote about me,” Wall said.
“It's nice to be recognised by the club.”
On the night, a coincidence saw two other Undera awards announced just before the Volunteer of the Year.
“Everyone on my table knew it was the category I was up for, and they asked whether we could make it three in a row,” Wall said.
“I said, ‘Oh, surely we're not that lucky, let's just see what happens’, and then sure enough they called my name out.
“So I was a bit shocked, and off I went to collect the award.”
It’s clear Wall’s not in the local sports scene for accolades — as would be the case for many tireless volunteers out there.
And tireless, or unrelenting, are apt words to describe the work.
Because unlike the players, these guys have no off-season.
“I've had the senior football coach on to me because he's got all these signed players he wants me to announce on social media,” Wall said.
“So he's doing that, and then as treasurer, we're just about to close our books for the end of the financial year at the end of October, so then I'm going to be off to the auditor and getting ready for the AGM for next season.
“So my off-season is not really an off-season, it's just an all year round season.”
But most importantly, evidenced by the recognition, no-one at Undera is taking Wall’s work for granted.
