The venue for the second week of the finals has been in doubt because a lift to serve the revamped Wilf Cox Complex had not arrived by the weekend.
But club president John Guinan said he had been informed by the Campaspe Shire the lift should arrive this week and be installed in time for the second week of the finals on September 5 and 6.
At this stage it is not confirmed on which of these dates (Saturday or Sunday) Kyabram will cater for the final under the league’s finals rotational system.
“At the moment we are just hoping the lift arrives and is installed in time for Kyabram to stage the final,” Guinan said.
“From my talks with council the Wilf Cox should be ready for use again by the end of August but we will have to just wait and see what happens.”
Picola league divided
It’s going to be interesting to see which, or if any clubs, want to join the revamped Picola District Football League.
The league will have two divisions from next year, with the decision made predominantly on geographical grounds.
Similar to its pre-2017 days when it also had two divisions, the Picola League will have a North West division comprising of mostly NSW sides; Deni Rovers, Mathoura, Blighty, Jerilderie, Rennie and Tocumwal, with Picola United the only Victorian club.
A South East division will be made up of Barooga, Dookie United, Katamatite, Katandra, Katunga, Strathmerton, Tungamah and Waaia.
Barooga is the odd club out in this league, as it is the only NSW club in the competition.
Clubs have mixed views on the revamp, but most favour the move to ensure the league’s future.
It could get to the stage also where the two divisional premiership sides meet in a super grand final.
There is also a chance some clubs from neighbouring leagues might be enticed to further swell the Picola League ranks.
KDL clubs Murchison-Toolamba and Shepparton East were mentioned in these discussions a couple of years ago.
But Murchison-Toolamba president Simon Robinson said his club was happy where it is at the moment and there had been no talk of a possible switch of leagues at his club.
Mueller makes return
Kyabram’s premier sportsman Kyle Mueller has come through his first serious test in his comeback to football.
The noted goalsneak played his first senior game with Murray League club Congupna since round one on Saturday and showed glimpses of his familiar skills in a runaway win.
On a forward flank he also spent time on the bench and kicked two goals and handed off a couple of others in Congupna’s runaway win over Rumbalara.
He has three more home-and-away games to build on his match fitness before the finals start.
Congupna is on top of the ladder.
Also a prodigious cricket talent, Mueller suffered broken vertebrae in his lower back in the first game of the Murray League season and there were concerns about his sporting future.
He said he got through his return to senior football okay and was looking to build on his fitness in the run to the finals.
Mueller kicked 100 goals in his first year with Congupna in 2024 and 93 last year.
