Lancaster continues to show why it should be one of the pre-eminent threats in Kyabram District League football when it put on a masterful display at home against Undera in round 11.
Granted, the Lions have just three scalps to their name in 2025, but the sheer extent of the Wombats’ attacking dominance was evident from the jump.
Banging eight goals in the opening stanza while holding its opponents to two behinds meant that Lancaster essentially won the game from the outset.
Undera doubled its score in the second period with another pair of minors, while the Wombats pushed on in a quieter stretch in front of goal, quiet still meaning 5.5.
An 81-point deficit by half-time was only further exacerbated when Undera yet again doubled its score while still remaining goalless, with Lancaster converting half of its chances for maximum points (6.6).
The Lions left it late to get on the board as the Wombats took their foot off the gas, conceding five goals down the stretch.
The hosts still managed five goals of its own while sending seven attempts through for minor return, ultimately cruising to a resounding 127-point victory.
The 24.20 (164) to 5.7 (37) thumping proved to be a valuable percentage booster for the second-placed Wombats, who are all but guaranteed to play finals.
Lancaster coach Nick Ryan reflected on the game and highlighted some key contributors in the dominant win.
“We’ve had some guys come up and play some different roles for us and everyone fit in nicely following on from the Nagambie game, a solid four-quarter effort,” Ryan said.
“It fell away in the last five minutes or so just with a bit of complacency, but it was great to see the boys go out there and play four good quarters of footy.
“Our centre bounce and stoppage work was a real highlight of the day and was the best we’ve used the footy going inside footy for the year.
“Tom Davies and Charlie McLay had good performances, with some of the guys coming up from the reserves playing well too.
“Steven Grima and Archie Guinan had really good days out, they continue to improve, so it’s good to see.”
Ryan also said that the side was beginning to turn its attention to the looming finals and making sure the team was ready to bring its best to the highest quality competition.
“We are starting to think towards finals, looking at the ladder and sizing up whom the likely match-ups are come finals and trying to build our side to make sure we are competitive when we get there,” he said.
“There are still a few good habits we want to continue with so we are there and ready come the pointy end of the year.
“We just want to maintain how style of play and keep continuing to be selfless and make sure all of our 22 are contributing in every game.”
The Wombats will be licking their lips in round 12 when they hit the road to face Tallygaroopna, which currently sits second last on the ladder.
