Commenced in 2018, the project is a partnership between the two councils, North Central Catchment Management Authority, Department of Environment Energy and Climate Action, and NSW Department of Planning and Environment.
In October 2023, the community was invited to provide input into the draft flood study report.
The next stage of the study follows the recent completion of the flood study report, which incorporates the feedback provided by the community.
It will investigate mitigation works, development controls and a flood warning system.
To kick-off stage two, the project team is hosting a series of community meetings to gain a better understanding of the types of mitigation measures the community would like investigated.
This is your opportunity to offer any further observations on past events and what could be done to reduce exposure to, and impacts of, future floods.
This may include levees, temporary works, individual property protection and development controls.
Community members are invited to drop into any of the following sessions, noting that each time slot has a particular area of focus.
Tuesday, January 30 at the Murray River Council Offices, Perricoota Rd, Moama:
- 9.30am to 11.30am: SES and other responders to the flood event.
- 12.30pm to 2.30pm: Moama and NSW side of Murray River.
- 4pm to 6pm: Echuca East and Echuca Village.
- 7.30pm to 9.30pm: Echuca central and west (focus on Campaspe and Murray rivers downstream of the wharf to Victoria Park).
Wednesday, January 31 at the Campaspe Shire Offices, corner High and Heygarth Sts, Echuca:
- 9.30am to 11am: Downstream of the Campaspe junction through Torrumbarry.
