Australia on tsunami watch after New Caledonia quake

Geoscience Australia said the quake hit at a depth of 31km.

The Bureau of Meteorology's tsunami warning centre said there was a potential threat to Lord Howe Island, 700km southeast of Brisbane, but at this stage, no waves had been observed that might threaten the Australian mainland.

There were also warnings of a possible tsunami for New Caledonia, Fiji, Vanuatu and New Zealand.
