It was not yet clear whether Maduro and his co-defendant, his wife Cilia Flores, would attend in person.
Maduro ruled the South American nation in an authoritarian manner for years at the head of a socialist government.
Earlier this year, he and his wife were captured in Caracas, in a controversial operation by US special forces.
The US has charged Maduro with "drug-related terrorism."
He is alleged to have used his office to facilitate the smuggling of thousands of tonnes of cocaine into the US. To this end, Maduro is said to have colluded with drug traffickers and personally profited from the scheme.
At an earlier court hearing, Maduro and Flores pleaded "not guilty" and, in turn, accused the US of having kidnapped them.
Maduro and his wife have been held in a prison in the New York borough of Brooklyn since their arrest.
A previous hearing centred on the question of who would bear the couple's legal defence costs. Maduro's lawyers wanted to use Venezuelan state funds, the prosecution opposed this. The court initially left the decision on this matter open at the time.
