Australia Day nominations open

Mayor Peta Betts said the awards are the highest honour council can bestow “to publicly acknowledge the many local heroes within our community, whose dedication and contributions may otherwise go unnoticed”.

In 2023, there will be seven categories: Citizen of the Year, Sport Award, Junior Sport Award, Arts & Culture Award, Junior Arts & Culture Award, Community Event or Initiative of the Year and Environmental Citizen of the Year (the Bill & Elwyn Hermiston Memorial Award).

Award recipients are decided by an Australia Day Awards Assessment Panel, with recipients announced at Australia Day celebrations in Waring Gardens on January 26. Recipients will be presented with an Australia Day gift and certificate.

Completed nominations should be returned to Edward River Council by close of business Friday, November 25. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the council’s website and are also available from the council office at 180 Cressy St, Deniliquin or at the library.
