CFA battle fire in Lancaster

By Kyabram Free Press

EMERGENCY services are responding to a haystack fire at Mackenzie Rd, Lancaster.

Firefighters from Kyabram, Merrigum and Tatura were called in to tend to the blaze at approximately 12.15pm on Tuesday.

The fire is confirmed to be no threat to the community.

Owner Steven Stone said he saw smoke coming up from the stack and immediately called 000.

"A small patch at one end started smoking a little bit and the wind kicked it in pretty quickly," he said.

"Once it started there wasn't any chance of stopping it.

"The fire brigade got here relatively quickly."

The CFA have urged residents to keep the roads clear so emergency services can respond.

To prevent the smell of smoke entering your home or business you should close windows and doors.
