Ecuador coach calls it quits after Cup loss to Mexico

Beccacece said he was filled with "great gratitude, great composure and inner peace, because we gave it our all". 

Against Mexico, Ecuador were clearly outplayed, particularly in the first half, already 0-2 down after just over half an hour. 

Ecuador had qualified for the round of 32 thanks to their 2-1 victory over Germany in their final group match. 

"It was all about achieving the goal we'd set ourselves. Well, that's football for you," said Beccacece, who took up the job in August 2024. 

"I think we're leaving a legacy behind. It's been a wonderful adventure with a bittersweet ending. 

"I'm going to spend some time with my family for now, have a rest and reflect on what I could have done better."
