Spurred on by contributions from residents, and relatives sending in dishes on behalf of loved ones, the aged care facility has released The Village Kitchen — its first cookbook in 20 years.
Unveiled during Warramunda Village’s recent open day, the new publication updates a beloved tradition last celebrated in 2006.
With Kyabram celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, project team thought it was the perfect milestone to update the recipe book.
The initiative was designed to ensure the comfort and nostalgia of home cooking remain a part of daily life for every resident.
“Food is deeply important to everybody—it is something families and friends share, and we want it to continue when people leave home to come to Warramunda,” dietitian Tenealle Nicholson said.
What began with a callout via flyers, emails, and social media quickly grew into a treasure trove of community heritage.
The printed collection features 48 curated recipes, ranging from cherished family favourites to popular items served daily at the facility’s Switch Café.
To ensure no family tradition was left behind, every submission received, from resident secret dishes to cherished family hand-me-downs, has been included in an expanded digital edition.
The Village Kitchen is now available for purchase at Warramunda Village, with all proceeds directly supporting ongoing lifestyle and wellbeing programs for residents.
