Rich River pennant player Glenn ‘Rocket’ Rogers recently scored an ace — a hole-in-one — which some golfers never experience in a lifetime in the game.
But no, it wasn’t a fluke.
Rocket had done it another two times in the past 12 monts and now four times over his golfing career.
He has spread his magic shot over courses at Narooma in NSW back in 1992 and at Burleigh in Queensland, with his home club Rich River hosting his next two perfect shots.
Don’t think there would be a lengthy queue challenging this feat.
Luck of the dentist
Strathbogie Shire man reckons he’ll be making more trips to the dentist if a recent visit plays out again.
After driving home he found out he was $1.2 million richer thanks to Tattslotto.
He was one of five division one-winning entries and pocketed $1, 247,390.16 for his troubles.
Raining on cup’s parade
If you reckon you have had your share of bad luck in recent years, spare a thought for the Gunbower Racing Club.
It was all set to stage its cup meeting on October 4 when it was called off, virtually at the last minute, for the fifth time in the last seven years.
Called off in this case means abandoned and not postponed to another date.
Stewards had given the all clear to race the previous night and a good majority of the crowd was on track and ready to race.
But the crowd conducted races of their own and the meeting went ahead minus the horses.
By the way, rain also ruined two other cup meetings and the COVID-19 pandemic forced the abandonment of the other two.
Almost ready to set sail
The paddle-steamer PS Canberra is expected to be back in business in three weeks.
Two shipwrights have been working on restoring the iconic vessel after it started sinking near the old Echuca-Moama bridge and expect to complete the work in that time.
Picnic ends in charges
There was drama for some Echuca schoolgirls enjoying a picnic near the Murray River.
They were confronted by a shirtless man brandishing a tree branch and demanding one of their handbags.
Police allege he took money from the handbag before swimming across the river into hands of waiting police.
The man, Barry Rogers, 51, was refused medical care but was hit with armed robbery and assault with a weapon charges and was remanded to appear for a committal mention on January 20, 2027.
Ready to rock
Echuca Moama Theatre Company has announced Queen Jukebox musical We Will Rock You as its main production in 2027.
The announcement comes after EMTC’s production this year of The Rocky Horror Show scored record Georgy Award nominations.
Christine puts up her hand
Labor’s candidate for Murray Plains is Bendigo-based retired water engineer Christine Grundy.
Ms Grundy said she had decided to run to fight for the regional communities she loved and to give voters in the safe Nationals seat another option.

Spring garden lovers might like to take a trip this weekend to Benalla.
Deidre Griffin and her husband John have a beautiful garden at 9 Mitchell St, Benalla, which will be open to viewing by the public.
Woman dies after crash
A 79-year-old Kialla woman died after hitting a tree in Wyndham St, Shepparton, on Monday, September 28.
The Toyota Camry she was driving rolled on to its roof. She was transported to GV Health and to a Melbourne hospital the following day, where she died.
Custody officers join ranks
Ten new custody officers have joined the Shepparton police ranks.
A custody officer is a sworn non-operational employee responsible for the health, welfare, safety and supervision of people held in custody at designated police stations.
King of the mural
Students and visitors to the Shepparton Christian College are greeted with an impressive mural of a lion these days.
It’s the work of the school’s art teacher Phillip Hickingbotham and appears on the wall of the school’s stadium.
It’s a whopping 160 square metres and Phil, known by his artist name ‘Hicko,’ managed to complete the mural during the recent school holidays.
Saleyards farewelled
The last sheep sale at the Jerilderie Saleyards was farewelled in style last week.
The final sale at the historic yards attracted hundreds of buyers, vendors, agents and locals.
About 10,000 sheep were penned for the occasion, with some of the best breeding ewes fetching more than $500.
And while on sheep and Jeriderie, two of the town’s brothers, Ross and Graham Wells, have been inducted into the NSW Stud Merino Breeders Hall of Fame for their contribution to the breeding industry.
