Police are investigating after a car was destroyed by fire in the Harding St car park, opposite the Seymour Centrelink office, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 5.15am on February 22.
The car’s owner, Mary Jacobson, said neighbours reported first hearing the blaze around 4.45am.
“They said it was like gas cylinders exploding,” she said.
“By the end it was just a shell.”
Residents gathered on the street to watch the event unfold as Ms Jacobson slept.
Ms Jacobson and her partner had planned to move across the state today, so had the car packed and ready.
“It had all of our ID, our birth certificates, everything … It had all our personal belongings,” she said.
Despite losing her possessions, Ms Jacobson remained upbeat.
“We are not going to let this get us down; at the end of the day, we are safe and that’s what matters,” she said.
“Everybody has been so supportive; the whole community have been lovely.”
There is extensive CCTV footage in the area and the fire is being treated as suspicious.
