Several vases and mementos were broken and scattered around graves at Yarrawonga Cemetery, greatly disappointing loved ones.
The incident serves as a timely reminder not to place breakable items at gravesites.
The damage occurred overnight on Friday, May 1, and has disgusted Yarrawonga District Cemetery Trust members.
“Whilst this sort of thing should never happen, it does show that all mementos and vases should not be glass or breakable items, in accordance with cemetery regulations,” Chairman of the Trust Des Quinn said.
“This ensures the safety of our contractors, volunteers and visitors to our cemeteries.”
Yarrawonga Police are investigating the incident.
The May 1 damage appears to be a random act and not targeted in any way.
Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Yarrawonga Police on 5744 3641.
