Kerbside collection of flood-affected waste from households will conclude on Thursday, March 2, as Greater Shepparton City Council wraps up the service.
Residents who still have flood-damaged household items to dispose of can do so free of charge before Thursday by registering online for kerbside collection, or by taking it to one of council’s resource recovery centres in Shepparton, Ardmona and Murchison, and showing proof of ID.
Council director infrastructure Gary Randhawa thanked community members for their clean-up efforts over the past few months.
“The clean-up task our region faced was extreme and required a lot of time, effort and community spirit,” he said.
“I would like to acknowledge and thank the community for helping each other through the clean-up and recovery phases following the flood event.
“With council now concluding their flood-affected kerbside waste collection service, we urge people to continue to dispose of any rubbish or flood-affected waste in the appropriate ways.”
Mr Randhawa warned people against illegal rubbish dumping — the sort that council has already seen in Mooroopna this year.
“Any dumping of rubbish is illegal and poses a health and safety risk to the community, as well as being unsightly,” he said.
Illegal dumping can result in on-the-spot fines of more than $300 or legal action.
