However, for Cobram Secondary College Year 10 student Jessie Ashcroft, that is her reality.
Jessie was one of 30 students chosen to do a three-day work experience with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall in June.
There were more than 100 applicants from across the state for the coveted positions.
The student, who plays the flute in the school band and the Shepparton Brass and Wind Band, is over the moon that she got through.
“I was absolutely ecstatic; I screamed, I was so excited,” Jessie said.
“This is a dream come true for me, I work so hard practising and attending band both at school and Shepparton. So all my work has definitely paid off.”
Jessie said she was most looking forward to meeting the musicians in the orchestra and watching them rehearse.
“I’m hoping to pick up tips and find out what it really takes to have a career in the music field,” she said.
Jessie isn’t the only one excited about the great opportunity.
“My mum was so excited and proud,” Jessie said.
Proud, too, is Jessie’s music teacher, Justin McLaren, who described her as hard-working and described the upcoming work experience opportunity as invaluable.
“Jessie practises the flute relentlessly, driving her continuous development as a musician,” he said.
“Her application for this work experience was outstanding and she thoroughly deserves this opportunity.”
The Courier congratulates Jessie on her achievement.
