A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital following a crash in Rushworth.

Emergency services were alerted to a crash along Bendigo-Murchison Rd in Rushworth at 10.46am on Friday, January 24.

Rushworth CFA First Lieutenant Mark Jones said a man had been riding a motorbike east on Bendigo-Murchison Rd, when a kangaroo jumped out on to the road, just past Hay Lane.

The 67 year-old Redcastle man hit the kangaroo and rode about 50m before veering off to the north side of the road into the bush, Mr Jones said.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said the man received upper body injuries in the crash.

Rushworth CFA units secured the area and directed traffic, while paramedics arrived to check the driver.

Rushworth SES arrived shortly after to remove the kangaroo from the road — which had died — and to assist with directing traffic.

The man was taken to Goulburn Valley Health in a stable condition.
