Man charged after bomb squad called to Numurkah property

The bomb squad was called to a Numurkah house on Saturday, October 31, after a suspicious device was found during a police search of the property.

The search came after police investigators were told a man discharged a firearm towards a vehicle in Numurkah on Thursday, police said.

Cobram Crime Investigation Unit detectives searched the Murray Ave property on Saturday.

Officers located a suspicious device during a search of the property, police said.

The Bomb Response Unit attended and rendered the improvised explosive device safe.

A 66-year-old Numurkah man was arrested at the scene and has been charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, being a prohibited person possessing an imitation firearm, possessing an explosive substance and making an explosive substance.

He was also charged with cultivating cannabis, possessing cannabis, possessing Victoria Police equipment without authority, and possessing a prohibited weapon without exemption.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 2.
