Pedestrian safety support rails are being installed at the Melbourne St pedestrian crossing in Mulwala with work being undertaken this week, August 11-12.
Contractors are broadening the median strip gap to three metres with new support rails installed on the median strip either side of the widened opening for enhanced stability and ease of crossing especially for elderly residents and people with mobility challenges.
The Federation Council project was developed in consultation with the local community and the Local Transport Forum.
The southbound lane on Melbourne Street will be closed during work hours with a detour in place via Inglis, Hume and Bayly Streets.
The road northbound between Dunmore and Inglish Streets will remain open to maintain access to local businesses.
Local property access within the roadworks site will be maintained with drivers asked to wait at the closure point and advise the traffic controller on duty.
