Victorian fishing clubs boosted with more grants

More fishing clubs in Victoria are set to receive grants to help encourage the next generation of recreational fishers.

Victorian Outdoor Recreation Minister Steve Dimopoulos has announced 12 grants awarded to local clubs through the Victorian Government’s Stronger Fishing Clubs grants.

“Our fishing clubs teach valuable skills and local knowledge to newcomers of all ages ‒ bringing the community together to enjoy Victoria’s great outdoors all year-round,” he said.

“We’re proud to back fishing club staff and volunteers as they attract new members and share the wonderful world of fishing within their communities.”

The program helps to support clubs with grants of up to $10,000, with recipients including Shepparton-based Goulburn Murray Fly Fishers, who will use their funding for first aid training, a new defibrillator and a satellite tracking device to ensure safer club fishing trips.

Other clubs set to receive grants include the Omeo Angling Club, which will benefit from new roofing, clubroom windows and a mobile signal booster and EFTPOS system, and the Children’s Black Dog Creek Fish Club, which will use their funding for a new community fishing fun day to share recreational fishing tips, alongside an upgrade for the club’s barbecue area.
