The causes for both are still being investigated by Murray River Police District.
A home in Wood St was gutted by flames on Friday afternoon, in a blaze authorities suggest originated in a bedroom of the home.
Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW Captain Martin Smith said the call came in about 3.19pm, and the home was already “fully involved” by the time firefighters arrived.
“When we arrived, there was a large volume of smoke, and it was fully involved,” Capt Smith said.
“Crews in breathing apparatus implemented defensive firefighting methods immediately to lock the fire down from outside.
“They then progressed inside for fire attack.
“The fire had progressed, with fire extension into the roof cavity.
“We had to pull the ceiling down to get into the roof space.”
Both Deniliquin fire appliances were deployed for the fire, with 10 firefighters.
A Finley FRNSW tanker and five firefighters also rendered assistance, along with firefighters from the Mid Murray Rural Fire Service.
Ambulance NSW and Murray River Police District were also on scene.
Capt Smith said the number of onlookers did create issues for emergency services, as they were putting themselves in harms way.
He said this included people on the road, and those who remained in the path of the potentially dangerous smoke coming from the home.
Police said the fire was fully extinguished by about 5.30pm, after which firefighters handed the scene over to police to investigate.
At 7.20pm Sunday, firefighters were called to a yard fire in Davies Crt, west Deniliquin, which had spread into a neighbouring yard.
Capt Smith said two walls of the neighbouring Decimus St house then caught alight, requiring concentrated effort from firefighters.
“It happened quite quickly, but we were able to get it extinguished,” Capt Smith said.
“Police are investigating the cause.”
