Marty Dermietzel has claimed his first weekly double, taking out the monthly challenge against Kev Young on 5 October and following it up with victory over Ashley Nicholls at the social night on 7 October. Subject to successfully completing mandatory drug testing, Marty now has the opportunity to become the first-ever Triple Crown holder in club history by winning the October Diggers’ Challenge. The club is expecting huge support for this very popular member in his pursuit of immortality on Monday, 12 October.
Marty’s run of form threatens the position of current Player of the Year leader Michael “Mr Wednesday Night” Barclay, who has shown a clean pair of heels to all pursuers so far in the 2026 season. Much interest and investment through Sportsbet are anticipated as this thrilling contest heads towards the season finale in November.
A cash night on Monday, 28 September, saw Wayne Rogers back in the winner’s circle when he prevailed over Michael Barclay. Wayne’s first victory in recent times was built on excellent snookering throughout the qualifying rounds and at the final table. Michael, who is having a stellar season, also performed very well to reach the play-off frame.
Rick Conomy made a welcome return for the social night on 30 September and thwarted Wayne Rogers’ chances of claiming the weekly double by taking the chocolates in a close final. It was lovely to see both Rick and Marg back at snooker, and the club looks forward to their next appearance.
A very popular innovation in the 2026 calendar is the Black Ball Challenge, which runs concurrently with the club challenge rounds. All participants are given the opportunity to pot the extremely difficult black ball off its spot, with a cash prize available to anyone who succeeds. Monday, 5 October, saw an unprecedented two players achieve this rare feat, as club legends Darren Thompson and Jason Bassett confirmed that while form may be temporary, class is permanent, sharing the prize pool.
The club championship singles and doubles, along with the club challenge finals, will occupy a very busy finish to the 2026 season over the next few weeks. Best of luck to all players as the club rounds out another excellent year.
