September has been a stellar month for the Corowa Rowing Club with Australian records and wins on the world and state scene showcasing the club’s winning culture.

The results show the dedication of the rowers to compete as well as just how far the sport can take country people.
One of the club’s master’s rowers, Darren McMahon, took himself to Lake Bled in Slovenia to compete in the World Masters Championships.
After countless hours spent in the gym training during winter, mostly on the ergometer, Darren produced incredible results including a second in his single scull event, second in the men’s double scull and an incredible gold medal in the mixed quad scull.
The club is incredibly proud of Darren, whose hard work has been rewarded.

On September 12 and 13, Corowa Rowing Club took part in the Gotcha4Life 24-hour rowathon to raise awareness and funds for mental health.
Led by Kylie Krause, the club’s rowers kept the rowing machines going continuously for 24 hours, which was no mean feat.
In the process, two rowers – Lily-Rose Hall-Krause and Eily Taylor – rowed an extraordinary 42.5 kilometres continuously, and each set an Australian record for their age group.
This showed both physical and mental toughness, and the club is incredibly proud of both girls for showing their grit and determination.
Congratulations to the other rowers who jumped on rowing machines, and especially to Kylie who kept the rowers motivated, caffeinated and fed.
Collectively, the club rowed 350km, raising $1500 for the cause.
Corowa Rowing Club’s Imogen Wragge, Wes Canny and Eily Taylor won awards at Rowing Victoria’s 150th awards night in Melbourne.
The month capped the month off with 10 club members attending the Rowing Victoria gala 150th celebrations at the Carousel, Albert Park in Melbourne.
This black-tie event celebrated the best of rowing in the 2025/26 season and was a chance to catch up with rowers from across the state.
Corowa had an incredible seven rowers in the top 50 club women’s ratings, and four of the top five female club rowers – Eily Taylor, Imogen Wragge, Phoebe Packer and Sommers Hogan.
Elizabeth Sandow, Lily-Rose Hall Krause and Susie Scott also featured in the top 50.
Imogen Wragge won the top female club rower for Victoria while Eily Taylor was runner up, and given the girls were 17 during the rowing season, it was a terrific result for them and the club.
The biggest cheers of the night came when Corowa Rowing Club coach Wes Canny was awarded Coach of the Year by Rowing Victoria.
The coach of the year award is not only recognition of results but also of the contribution they make to the broader rowing community.
Wes is well known among rowers state-wide, beginning his love of rowing at the Essendon Rowing Club, and has been coach/captain at Corowa for 30 years, encouraging those new to the sport.

After a busy September training hard and participating in the Rowathon, the Club’s rowers will start their 2026/27 regatta season in October.
Lily-Rose will head to the Barwon River to take on a tough field of scullers over the 4,000m course in the A grade single sculls.
The Club heads to Bendigo for the annual 480m sprint course on Lake Weeroona, with a full showing of rowing teams featuring beginners through to A Grade rowers representing the Club.
The local Murray Rowing Association Regatta has a new date, moving from January to October.
Racing begins on Saturday, October 31for the 800m course, with the 500m sprints on the Sunday.
The three local clubs, Wahgunyah, Rutherglen Lake and Corowa, host the rest of the state’s clubs at the Lake Moodemere course.
Corowa Rowing Club welcomes new rowers to come down and give the sport a try.
Rowing training is held on Monday and Wednesday nights, and every Sunday morning.
The club will also be part of the Federation Shires expo on October 15 for anyone who is keen to find out more.
