The Eagles headed to Woorinen Recreation Reserve for the clash, the undefeated Tigers looking to defend home turf.
That’s exactly what they did in a low-scoring first term, Echuca United held without score, while Woorinen posted 2.1 (13).
The Eagles got on the board in the second, but Woorinen in turn stepped up its own offensive game, kicking five in the quarter to lead by 36 at the main break.
United will take heart from a promising stretch after the break, the Eagles matching the undefeated leader in the third period, eight points apiece, but it wasn’t enough to turn this match around, Woorinen closing out the match adding 15 points unanswered in the final quarter to win 10.6 (66) to 2.3 (15).
Isabella Nathan found herself as the focus of Echuca United’s attacking raids, kicking both her side's goals, while Woorinen’s Prue O’Sullivan was the game leader with three.
Declining to 1-6, the Eagles’ jump to the new league has been as successful on the field as they would have hoped, but the Jason Dennis-led side hasn’t been far off the pace in most of their fixtures, losing by 10 or fewer points on three occasions.
United has a good opportunity to secure a second four points next weekend, taking on another side with just a single win, Golden Square.
The Eagles get that opportunity at home, Echuca South Recreation Reserve, from 11am this Sunday.
