Important round for Rams

With only two rounds and a bye for the Rams remaining before Murray League finals, the matches against Tongala will help shape finals hopes for several Rams sides.

This includes for the fourths and thirds footballers, looking to improve from fourth on the ladder, while the under-13s, under-17s and A-grade netballers are trying to hold on to their top six standings.

Last round against Echuca United, the senior footballers went down by 27 points in what coach John Fitzpatrick described as a closely fought match.

“We were in the game all day.

“We had basically the same number of scoring shots, we just couldn’t capitalise and that brought on too much scoreboard pressure.”

The Rams face a firing fifth placed Tongala, a side which has won the last four rounds.

When the two teams played each other earlier this season, the Blues were the victors at home by 84 points.

“Playing them over there, they had some pretty handy, experienced players.

“But we’re at home, and we’ll try to put in a pretty good fight,’ Fitzpatrick said.

The Rams close out the season against only top five sides, and will have to continually adjust to compete.

“We’ll continue to try and do a few different things with our structure.

“Zac Free played back last week and was very, very good, so we’ll continue with that and try looking forward to next year.

“All we can do is try our best to finish well; that’s our aim.”
