Both sides were winless entering the contest, which on paper represented Ky’s best opportunity to break its duck in 2026.
It seemed the Bombers would be able to go toe-to-toe with the Saints, as the sides played out an even opening period, Benalla racing out to a 10-3 lead before Ky finished strongly to only trail 13-7 at the first interval.
But the script began to alter in the second quarter, the Saints seizing their own opportunity to notch a first win by scoring 14 goals and holding Kyabram to five, Benalla at one stage scoring seven straight just before half-time, where it led 27-12.
The Saints netted nine of the first 10 second half goals to further pull away, going on to score 30 in total across the third and fourth quarters. Emma Quinn’s Bombers were only able to add another four baskets in the same period to fall to a crushing 57-16 loss.
Ky’s 16 goals were split across three players, Jazmin Clark, Lara Cunningham, and Charli Lloyd, who scored nine, five, and two, respectively, while the club named Tori Walsh best-on via its Facebook page.
A loss to the only other winless side means Kyabram are now alone on zero points at the foot of the ladder, with the Bombers travelling to face Seymour next this Saturday.
