The Blues continue to look good against some of the league’s best, falling by six goals, 41-35, to the Bombers at Waaia Recreation Reserve.
Waaia made a good start to the game, but Picola didn’t let things get out of hand, the Bombers ahead by five at the first break.
The Blues closed in a strong second quarter, cutting the margin to two at half-time, 20-18.
Waaia again threatened to break the game open in the third quarter, surging to a nine-goal lead, but Picola showed resilience down the stretch, winning the final term to cut the margin to six.
Although they suffered a setback here against the now 8-1 Waaia, the Blues (6-3) are well entrenched in the top eight, two games clear of ninth place.
Picola takes on another 8-1 side in the next round, Dookie United, back at home at Picola Recreation Reserve.
Mathoura v Katandra
Mathoura faced a challenging contest at home to Katandra and the game got away from the Timbercutters after a decent first quarter.
The opening term was the most even of the match, with the Kats opening up an 18-8 lead.
Mathoura’s struggles to convert with the ball became evident as the match progressed and the goals dried up for the Cutters as Katandra broke away to win 72-20.
The Cutters (0-9) will hope for an improved performance against another of the lower sides, visiting Strathmerton (1-8) this weekend.
