Friday bowls
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
On Friday, 20 bowlers took the opportunity to enjoy the good weather and great competition on the greens.
The winning duo, with two game wins and 17 shots up, was Bev Hetherington and Alan Benson.
Well done to the winners.
Friday bowls will be run on Friday, August 21 at 1.30pm.
Names to be entered on the list prior to noon.
Ladies match committee
The match committee has met and plotted out the ladies events for the coming season.
Friday social bowls is set to commence once the season opens – hopefully, Friday, September 11.
Indoor Bowls
Winners on Monday, August 10 were Graham Prince, Bert Smolenaars and Octavia.
Unfortunately for Anton, he didn’t come home with the win this week, however, Betty, his ‘better half’ managed to get a few ‘touchers’ and scored chocolates for her efforts.
A special mention goes out to Judy Murray, who turns up each week to assist with the organisation but is always willing to sit on the side lines if the numbers don’t quite fall into even teams and is willing to step up to play if need be – a true sportswoman.
Indoor bowls will be run again on Monday, August 21 – bowlers are asked to be there by 6.45pm, ready for a 7pm start.
Monday, August 31 will be the last night of indoor bowls for the season.
Bowlers are requested to bring a small plate to share so that we can finish off the season with some extra socialising.
Footy tips
With only two home and away games to go, things are getting a bit exciting.
Ryan Williams is making strong inroads with his tipping – he went for two roughies last weekend and was rewarded with two wins.
There’s a strong challenge for second place, with a few tipsters keeping tabs on who each other has tipped.
Each week is a challenge and the overall win could be anyone’s.
The Blue Baggers had two mighty wins over the Saints last Sunday evening – both the men and ladies came home with strong performances and yes, I sang loudly and proudly.
I bet Weeksy sat up until past midnight listening to all the recaps of the game again last week.
If anyone went for either the Hawks or Magpies as a roughie last night, they might have dodged a bullet there.
Season opening and footy presentation night is Friday, September 4. Details to come.
60 and Over
The 60 and over competition begins on September 2 at Elmore.
Play kicks off at 11am.
Teams need to be entered before 6pm on Sunday, August 30.
Skippers should enter their teams by notifying Phil Mace 0428 290 351 or Alan Gerrish 0427 461 448.
Any members who are looking for a game but not in a team, please let the delegates, Francis Keech 0477 949 700 or Dave Murray 0477 520 385 know, as they will attempt to get them a game.
Beer price
As of Monday, August 17 the price of beer at the Bowls Club will increase.
Unfortunately, the cost of beer has increased and therefore, the club is forced to implement a price rise.
Pots, stubbies and cans - $6 and schooners - $7.50.
This decision was discussed and researched in depth and has the approval of the Board.
