Defence took centre stage as Girgarre went down by four goals to Shepparton East in the KDL C-grade grand final.

Only 12 baskets were scored in the first period, with the Eagles inaccurate while the Roos struggled for clean entries into the goal circle.

Ahead of the fourth, Girgarre was a chance of beating its undefeated opponent, tied at 21-21.

But the Eagles were a touch better down the stretch.

Both teams allowed second chance opportunities in the fourth.

Shepparton briefly had a two-goal lead, up 26-24 before Girgarre tied it up again.

The Roos missed down 27-26, with their inaccuracy costly late on.

The Eagles suddenly pushed their advantage out to three goals, and were more efficient to close, running out as 33-29 winners.

Shepparton goaler Kendall Guilmartin was best-on, with her accuracy and ability to generate second looks standing out.
