Lancaster was down early, trailing 13-7 at the first change as it played a man short for a period in the opening quarter.

“We were playing with 17, so it was about holding in that part, and then second quarter we just started to get our game rolling and then we just jumped on for the ride,” Wombats player-coach Phil Carroll said.

Once their full complement was restored, the Wombats seized control.

It then came out the stronger in the second half, kicking the first three majors of the third to have Nagambie on the brink.
Guinan proved a particularly strong outlet in the forward 50, with inaccuracy the only reason he didn’t kick more.

Playing during arguably the hottest part of the day, several players began to wilt with cramp in the fourth.
Nagambie worked itself back into the contest to start the final term, only trailing by 12 points at one stage.

But Guinan found his stroke from two late set-shots, sealing a 10.8 (68) to 6.6 (42) win for the Wombats.
Carroll was named best-on-ground, ironic given he’s usually the one handing out the accolade.

“It was a bit of a shock,” he said.
“I had a few others in my best, but that's okay, that's the way they voted, so it's a nice way to finish.”
