Born in Brisbane and passed away in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. Merv was the elder child of Luther and Ellen Richards (McKeown). He grew up in Brigalow, Dalby, and Brisbane and matriculated from Brisbane Boys College. As a young man he was a member of the Kirra Surf Lifesaving Club. Merv served on active service in the Pacific area from 1942 as an anti-submarine officer in the RAN . Post-war he graduated from the School of Dentistry at the University of Queensland and practiced in Toogoolawah and later in Lutwyche in Brisbane. He and his family moved to Toronto, Canada, in 1967 where he continued to run a successful dental practice. He is survived by his 4 children (John, Glynis, Ian and Janette) 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
