Passed peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, 6 May 2026, aged 88, in the loving presence of her husband and best friend - Patrick.

Shirley moved through life leaving joy in her wake.

Born in Mackay, the cherished youngest of four, she and Pat found each other at nineteen and built a life together that most can only dream of — 65 years of marriage, six children, nineteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Shirley understood the art of the possible and made everything possible for those she loved.

Strangers opened up to Shirley within minutes and friends kept her for life. Shirley was warm, funny, courageous and wise — and she gave her love, her time, and her joy unconditionally to everyone lucky enough to know her. Apart from entrepreneurial adventures with Patrick, being Miss Noosa and dancing with Sr Edmond Hillary, Shirley sold encyclopaedias and fine china, crafted prize-winning quilts she gifted to her family, travelled Europe — London, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Rome, Paris — and went to university in her later years, just to keep up with the world. Life brought serious challenges; she took everyone in her stride.

Shirley was, in every sense, an example of how to live.

Shirley also knew deep grief — the loss of her daughter Michelle at 24, and her son Daniel at 62. She carried them with grace, and with love. Their ashes will be laid to rest with her, as she wished.

From little things,
big things grow.

Beloved wife of Patrick. Loved and missed beyond words by her children Lisa Veronica, Maree Patricia, Shawn Ronald and Louise Kathryn, and by her cherished Michelle Patrice and Daniel Patrick, 19 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren.
