The word of God is often likened to honey and just as honey brings sweetness and nourishment to our bodies, God’s Word beings deep joy to the heart, heals the spirit and offers comfort during difficult times.

Psalm 119:103 tells us “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth. Honey is a source of pure energy and gives us nourishment. Reading and taking in God’s Word fuels our faith and provides daily spiritual nourishment.
Proverbs 24:13 says “My son, eat honey, for it is good and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste” Verse 14 compares that sweetness to gaining wisdom for the soul.
Proverbs 16:24 teaches that pleasant, godly words are sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Just as we like the taste of honey, we are invited to “taste and see” God’s goodness by reading and reflecting on His promises.
Even when Life seems bitter, turning to God’s word can bring peace to an anxious mind. Honey is mentioned 60 times in the Bible and in most cases it represents one of three things. Each reveals something of what we might call the “sweetness of God”.
Honey represents God’s land and rescue. From Exodus 3, God told Moses He had seen the affliction of His people in Egypt and promised that He would deliver them from the Egyptian’s oppression and bring them to a land flowing with milk and honey.
The people will be redeemed from captivity into freedom. Israel has known slavery and bondage, but the Lord will take them into sweetness and abundance.
This was God’s commitment to bless and rescue His people. When our circumstances look hopeless we can still worship a God who can take the sour vinegar of our situation and turn it into sweet honey.
Even when our today is bitter, and today it seems like it often is, our tomorrow is sweet.

Honey represents God’s gifts and His grace. The first time we encounter honey in the Bible, it’s a gift from someone to gain favour with another.
But when God gives honey to us, it’s not to find favour or to trade for something else.
God doesn’t need anything from anybody . He gives us His gracious gifts simply to bless us and because He loves us.
From that abundant love God provided His people in the wilderness Manna from heaven and water gushing from a rock. Exodus 16:31 says the manna tastes of honey and Psalm 81:16 described the water as “honey from the rock”.
Honey is the symbol of the abundant sweetness of God’s gracious gifts to us which cannot be earned, bought or exchanged. His gifts can only be received.
We need to not only learn about God but to experience Him, to let Him refresh our souls with His sweetness and richness . Psalm 34:8 says “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good”.
