Five dead, 27 injured in Hong Kong building fire

At least five people are dead and another 27 injured following a fire in Hong Kong's bustling Kowloon district.

The fire started at a building called New Lucky House in the Jordan neighbourhood.Â

Three males and one female were killed, police said. Police also said they were still receiving calls from people inside the building asking for help.

At least six of the injured were in serious condition, the hospital authority said, with one critical.

Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving a call about the fire at 0953 AEST, authorities said.

Local media including the South China Morning Post reported the fire had broken out at a gym on the first floor and that the blaze had been brought under control.

Eric Chan, the Chief Secretary for Administration, told reporters there would be an investigation into the cause of the fire.
