The Chicago Bulls three-peat NBA champion was invited to share some of his big game expertise with the Lions mid-season as they look to complete their own triple crown.
It's something Longley does for a lot of clubs, but this time it may be come back to bite his hometown, leaving the Dockers diehard "feeling like a bit of a goose."
"I'm in trouble with my Freo mates at the moment because I had a chat to the Brisbane Lions in June," Australia's first NBA champion said.
"I do that with a lot of teams around the place, and anyone that's chasing a three-peat calls me up because I've done it."
At the time, it felt like a favour to the team and (coach Chris) Fagan, and obviously now I feel like a bit of a goose."
The Olympian says he was up front with the Lions about his Dockers allegiance, having been a fan since the very beginning, attending the the club's launch back in 1994 before becoming the club's number one ticketholder in 2006 and 2007.
Dreams of a flag have been a long time coming.
"Freo fans are carrying a lot of scar tissue from a lot of near-misses, it's been a long time," Longley said
The co-owner of the Sydney Kings NBL and Sydney Flames WNBL teams, has flown back out west to celebrate the momentous grand final occasion.
Longley says there was no temptation to watch the game live in Melbourne, wishing instead to join in on the ensuing wharf party if Fremantle can win their first premiership.
"I can't wait to see what Freo looks like when we win it," the Fremantle fanatic said.
"I want to be in Fremantle on the street when it blows up, and they tip over buses and carry on like fools, I want to be there to help tip the bus over."
