As we enjoy the mid-season break for pennant competitions there is not a lot to report, but of course we have moved into the New Year and so we hope everyone survived the celebrations and we wish all bowlers every success on the greens at all levels of competition.
In the past few weeks we were pleased to be the venue of choice for Christmas parties for some of our local companies.
But you don’t have to wait till next Christmas – we’d love to have you come and try out the game of lawn bowls that we love.
If you are currently visiting our district and would like some cold drinks and fun on our grass bowling green, call into our club from 4pm any Tuesday to Sunday.
You will find us on William St between the police station and Tennis Club.
OH&S no longer allows us to have you bowl in bare feet – so please wear some runners/sneakers (no heels and please don’t dig your toes into the green) – and come and enjoy some “Claytons* Barefoot Bowls”. We will provide the bowls. To be sun-smart, please bring a hat too.
In the event of extreme heat, the greens may be closed to bowls but you can still enjoy our airconditioned club.
Individuals, or small groups are welcome to drop in, larger groups should call ahead.
Please note that current government health orders require you to check-in with our QR code, provide evidence of double vaccination status, and wear a face mask when moving about inside our club.
Got any questions, or wish to book in a group? Call Glenda on 0407 040 208.
Bowlers are reminded that entries are currently open for the following state event qualifiers in Murray Playing Area: Men’s and Ladies Triples, and Men’s and Ladies Fours.
Entry forms are on our club notice board and close on Monday, January 10.
Men’s Trade Day season recommences on Thursday, January 6, at Barooga and players are reminded that the format will change to two games of 10 ends, followed by one game of 12 ends.
*Some of you may not be old enough to remember the 1979 advertisement about the drink called “Claytons”, or that in 1991 ‘claytons’ was entered into the Macquarie Dictionary with a definition of “serving as a substitute”.
Barooga
Happy New Year from the Barooga Bowls sports news desk.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas enjoying the New Year break and we all can now look forward to a great 2022.
Time to remind everyone that pennant practice resumes officially on January 12 but in the meantime we have our trade day event on January 6, Keith's Friday resuming on Friday, January 7, and Medley Pairs on January 11.
So plenty of bowls returning early in the new year so put names down for these events please to make it easier for the organisers.
Ladies resume on January 10, the same day that minor singles entries close with first round the following Monday. Ladies trade days start on February 2.
A reminder also that mixed pairs entries are now open with first round set down for February 6 so names down for that one also please.
Men's 100 up and B grade matches are now up to semi-final and quarter-final stages with next rounds to be completed by January 12, so the participants need to be aware of this especially with all the events happening early January.
We wish our four contestants in the novice singles at Numurkah on January 16 the best of luck in their matches.
We have Joan Boyer and Fran Thatcher in the ladies section and Doug Pocknee and Brian Baldwin in the men's section representing our club, good bowling to all of you.
Finally, pennant is set to start again on January 14 and 15 so we will all get back into the full swing of things by those dates.
Good bowling to everyone in 2022.
