Rochester’s swimming pool project remains dependent on securing $3.95 million in federal funding, with the grant application yet to open.
Campaspe Shire Council representatives encouraged the Rochester community to continue contacting Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chester about the status of the funding.
Recent works at the pool have included upgrades to drainage, with one of the main pipes enlarged to improve water flow away from the area.
Meals on Wheels volunteers wanted
Rochester and Elmore District Health Service is seeking volunteers to help with its planned Meals on Wheels service, which is expected to roll out in October.
The meals will be delivered frozen, initially with the intention of one delivery per week, with more deliveries possible if needed.
Volunteers would generally need to commit to about one delivery per week.
REDHS said the service was aimed at providing meals to people who needed them in the community.
Learner driver program receives support
Elmore, Rochester and Lockington Community Bank has committed to sponsoring the LTP learner driver program for three years.
The funding helps cover the cost of running the program's vehicle, allowing young people to complete their required driving hours.
The program has supported 12 learners to complete their hours, with another four learners coming on.
Students gain industry experience
Rochester Secondary College students have been taking part in a range of industry programs, including real-world job interviews.
Students prepare cover letters and resumes before taking part in formal interviews with volunteers from local businesses and organisations.
The college is also preparing for its annual Year 8 industry immersion tour, which will involve about 85 students visiting businesses across the community.
EV charging station planned
A new committee is working towards establishing an electric vehicle charging station in Rochester.
The EV car charger committee has identified a proposed location across the road from the mill, near the IGA.
The project is still progressing through the planning stages.
Strathallan hall set for community revival
The Strathallan community is working to restore its historic hall after successfully advocating for the community to retain the facility.
The hall was built in 1926 by the community and was historically used for dances.
Plans include re-stumping and elevating the building, with the community hoping to make the hall available for wider community use.
Rochester golf attracts visitors
Rochester's golf club recently hosted its Sand Greens Championship, attracting more than 120 golfers from across Victoria.
About 50 volunteers helped over the weekend.
The event attracted visitors from outside the region and provided another boost to the local community.
Healthy Ageing Expo coming
The Healthy Ageing Expo will be held at the Shire Hall on October 22 from 10am to 2pm.
Organisers said there would be plenty to see and do, with more information to be released in the coming weeks.
Christmas tree exhibition
A Christmas tree exhibition is also being planned, with organisations, businesses and individuals invited to put forward a decorated tree.
