The day will be an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the witness of past generations to this day.
Methodist services commenced in a neighbour’s kitchen in 1874 before a log and mud building was constructed.
Later, a weatherboard church was built on the present site and used until the beautiful brick church was built.
This church was opened for worship in 1926 as a memorial to those who served in World War I.
The Cooma church’s male choir performed at the opening of the present building and has been a fixture of the church, and while the choir has been in recess for several years, it has re-formed to sing at the final service.
Peter Anderson, the fourth conductor in 90 years, will lead the choir while Graeme Brewer will return to play the organ and Rev Stewart McDonald, a past minister, will preach.
Current minister Rev Iain Nixon will lead the service.
All past attendees and other interested people are welcome to celebrate this occasion and to share in afternoon tea at the Cooma Cricket Club following the service.
A Book of Memories is being collated and any stories of special occasions, humorous anecdotes or recollections would be welcomed.
These can be sent to Jenny Nixon, 9 Unitt St, Kyabram, 3620, emailed to jenniferanixon@gmail.com or passed on by phone on 0490 116 899.
