Fault in substation feeder

A broken crossarm on the feeder supplying power out of the Deniliquin Zone Substation has been confirmed as the cause of this morning’s power outage.

Essential Energy said this morning’s fault originated at the substation about 5.10am, resulting in an unplanned power outage for around 6,260 customers across Deniliquin, surrounding villages and at Mathoura.

“Essential Energy crews responded and completed a line patrol, identifying a broken crossarm as the cause of the outage,” the company said.

“The crossarm was located on a feeder supplying Deniliquin and surrounding areas from the Deniliquin Zone Substation.

“As this feeder supplies a large number of customers, the outage affected a wide area.”

Affected customers received a text message alert, which advised crews were working on rectifying the issue, with an estimated restoration time of 9.30am.

“Crews managed to restore power to 1785 customers just before 7am.

“The remaining customers were restored by approximately 7.20am through network switching, which will allow crews to safely make repairs to the broken crossarm.

“We thank customers for their patience while crews responded to the outage and restored supply as quickly and safely as possible.”
