The Campaspe Shire council will vote on putting an updated draft of the play space concept on display for public feedback.
A previous draft concept for the play space was shared in April this year, with respondents highlighting their desire for increased accessibility, more shade, and barbecue facilities.
The latest move comes after council voted in July to link the Jaycee Park master plan to an undeveloped strategic plan for Kyabram and explore options for ‘interim or staged improvements’ at the site.
Comments from council officers in this month’s agenda said they’d been working to refine the draft concept since the July meeting, reaffirming council’s commitment to planning the play space redevelopment during the 26/27 financial year and beginning work in 27/28 subject to budget approval.
The officers said the changes in the updated draft concept were informed by community feedback and their recommendation to put the plan on display ‘responds to community aspirations and provides a practical pathway for progressing the renewal of an important community asset while broader strategic planning for Kyabram continues.’
Kyabram Development Committee secretary Renee Pichler welcomed the recommendations, saying the renewal of the playground had always been the biggest priority for the group.
“This is a brilliant result, which has come about from public pressure,” Ms Pichler said.
“It’s come as a result of people refusing to be quiet about this and let it pass.
“Thank you to everyone for fighting for our kids.”
If the motion passes, any feedback received will be presented to council for consideration before they vote on whether to proceed with a detailed design and budget bids for the play space renewal.
