Blues bowled over by Barooga

Picola United has slipped to a fourth straight defeat.

A fourth consecutive defeat has seen Picola United return to parity in the Picola District Football League season, Barooga the latest side to get the best of the Blues.

The Hawks visited Picola Recreation Reserve for the first time since its off-season jump from the Murray league and Barooga had no trouble warming into the new surroundings in the first term.

The host kicked two goals, but the visitor had superior forward pressure, scoring 4.2 to lead by 14 points at the first break.

Both sides found two in the second term, but Barooga again had slightly more opportunities, adding four behinds to Picola’s one to narrowly extend its advantage.

It was more of the same after the main break, as the Hawks logged more scoring shots and continued to pull away.

Ahead 26 a three-quarter time, Barooga continued the onslaught in the fourth, eventually prevailing 10.15 (75) to 6.3 (39).

Hayden Brown was again the scoring leader on a difficult afternoon for Picola, kicking three of his side’s six goals, while Jared Laffy was deemed the Blues’ best.

Dropping to 12th, Picola United now only sits above the four winless teams, the same four it defeated in the first month of the season.

With a dominant Waaia on the horizon on Saturday, the Blues will be up against it to end the four-game slide at Waaia Recreation Reserve.
